If someone sends you a document with a .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx extension, it has been created in one of the newer versions of Office (2007 or 2010 on the PC, 2008 or 2011 on the Mac).

If you are using an older version of Office (2003 on the PC or 2004 on the Mac), you need to install the Microsoft Office Compatability Pack, which is available here on Microsoft's website. You can also submit a support request to have your Office version updated to the latest version.

If you are wanting to purchase Office software for your home computer, this software is available for under $20 from the UAB Bookstore. (You will need your UAB faculty, staff or student ID to purchase).
