Note: Before you begin, please download the UAB VPN connection information located behind their secure website. You will need to use your UAB BlazerID or XIAS account to access that file as it contains details you will use in the steps below.
These screenshots were taken on a Mac running OS X 10.9.2 (Mavericks), but they should be similar if you're running a different version.
Step 1: Open System Preferences
Step 2: Open the Network settings
Step 3: Add a new Network connection
Step 4: Select VPN for the interface, Cisco IPSec for the type, and give it a name of whatever you like
Step 5: Using the information from the sheet you downloaded at the very start, fill out the Server Address. Then add your BlazerID or XIAS account name and password. Make sure the checkbox is checked to show the status in the menu. Then click the Authentication Settings button.
Step 6: From the sheet you downloaded fill in the Shared Secret and Group Name. Quick tip: you can copy the secret from the sheet to make it easier. Click OK.
Step 7: Double-check your settings from Step 5, then click the Apply button as shown in the the screenshot from Step 5.
Step 8: There should be an icon in your menu bar that looks like this. Click the icon and select the VPN name you set up to start your UAB campus VPN connection. When you are finished using the connection, just select it again and disconnect.
